Hermann Arnold sees himself as an explorer and promoter of innovative forms of organization. He studied at the University of St. Gallen, and was shaped by his understanding of companies as „productive, social systems”. Together with his colleagues and customers, he uses his own company, Haufe-umantis, to try out approaches such as line manager elections and corporate democracy, employee recruitment for which the team is responsible and manager development through resignation. In his book, „Wir sind Chef” [We are the boss], Hermann Arnold describes his sometimes surprising but also instructive experience with new concepts of company management. These are certainly not events put on for employees' amusement. They are definitely demanding for all concerned.
